FAQs

Why do this?

You already know the answer to that question because you are here on this page.

How much money do we need to raise?

There are a lot of varying answers to this question. The short answer is 40,000.00.

Our pending Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) affiliate, The United Church of Canada, disagrees with the suggested amount of 27,000.00 and have created a realistic budget to see a family through 1 year successfully.

Where does my money go?

The money we raise right now for ACWR will be placed in an in-trust account at CIBC.

Once our paperwork is finalized with The United Church of Canada, there will be an account set up with The Rosedale United Church(Our Sponsorship agreement holder- they connect us with our family) and the funds collected to that point will be deposited into that account.  From that point on, donations will be made to that account on behalf of our group. Cheques will be made payable to The Rosedale United Church.

I want to do more, how can I help?

Please go to our Take Action page for more information.

Does all of the money raised go to the actual refugee family?

Yes, if you donate by cheque. For online donations, a 5% administrative fee goes to CanadaHelps, our online fundraising partner the rest will go to our Rosdale United Church bank account for our family.

Can I start my own fundraiser?

Yes, please do! If have an idea to raise funds for our initiative, we welcome your goodwill.

Our hope is that as word spreads, the energy around this initiative will build!

Please contact us to tell us how you want to contribute.

How does the process work?

After the funds have been raised and a group of volunteers have committed to providing on the ground support to the family, the pairing process and the waiting begins. In the meantime, the Toronto group prepares to welcome their family by ensuring temporary housing in lieu of the permanent home which will be secured once the family has arrived.

Where will the family live? North Toronto is expensive.

Don't we know it.

One of the most important parts of the settlement process is finding affordable and suitable housing for our family. It is an interesting question because part of this process involves REAL involvement and community creation  for our family. This is crucial.

Our support community needs to be close by but that is a relative term. Affordable housing can be found within an acceptable distance from our support group.

Where can I donate household items?

We are in early stages yet and we know that the community will rally together. A solution to this question will be found as we proceed.
