We Are Canada

Hearing the grunts of ignorance pulsating from screens and invading my home and my mind and polluting my children's ears, has hardened me to the reality of hate that lurks politely in our world.

The saying of it outloud, the transmission of unbelievable words touted as fact by experts of hate has, somehow validated an eager few to express everything that our people are not.

We are Canada. We are from the world. We are a meeting place for culture and conversation.

We are spices and robes and prayer beads. We are mountains and hockey and Timbits.

Whatever we are, it is not by accident. We are the authors of this country.

Shine your light brighter, Canada. We all get to belong.
